Huges Soucy
Biography
Almost totally self-taught artist, he has more than thirty years of various achievements for several municipalities and collections across Canada. His artistic approach is borrowed from several styles and techniques, which he has adapted and refined over the years. Soucy is a creator of eclectic pieces as much on the materials as on the finished product. However, he has a style and a constant on the semi-figurative side. His works are stylized and incredibly balanced.
Artistic approach
With over thirty years of achievements to my credit, my approach has taken several avenues. I went from figurative sculpture to stylized (semi-figurative) sculpture. I exploited mythological themes, then what I called integration sculpture or jewel sculpture; integration of fine stone, fine wood and metal. This idea of integrating different materials in the same work has remained, over the years, one of the guidelines of my production and has allowed my work to stand out from what was done in sculpture. Over time, I came to be represented by various prestigious galleries which helped to disseminate my work. I have been described as an artist of form and movement. Today, I still consider myself an explorer of form and movement, but also of matter, and this translates into my recent production.
